The automotive world is increasingly regulated by digital electronics, and hot rodders might as well take advantage of these amenities. This story will look at the evolution of the 4L60E, which is essentially a digitally controlled R4. The original R4 was built in as a Corvette four-speed automatic with overdrive. This gearbox is different because it applies an overdrive to First gear to create Second. Third gear is 1: This first version was designed with a bolt-on extension housing and employed a throttle-valve TV cable intended to signal engine load to the transmission via throttle position, instead of a using engine vacuum. Most transmission specialists agree an improperly adjusted TV cable is the culprit in most aftermarket R4 failures. In , GM wisely converted to electronic control, eliminating the cumbersome TV cable while changing its nomenclature to 4L60E. The numbers decipher like this:

I am attributing that to my errors with the tape measure in my haste to get mine measured so I could get back into a warm house, and I am simply using the published specs. First up, let’s tackle overall length and case length. Overall length is important for the final driveshaft length and the case length is important for the fitment to the transmission tunnel. This will require shortening the driveshaft by a matching amount, so I know that no matter what I will be paying a visit to the local driveshaft shop, which I would be doing anyway – see the section on Inputs and Output for details on why.
That means the transmission should fit nicely without any major clearance issues.
Apr 08, · I just replaced the transmission filter, gasket and put 4 quarts in the tranny. Is that low? That should have been fine, the small nipple on the passengerside front of the is timed or ported vacuum, the nipple on the driverside is full manifold.
If your speedometer reads wrong, don’t suffer. A very easy operation. Simply lift the front of the car and find the cable going to the side of the tranny. The cable is removed easily and the gear slides into a metal housing that also is easily pried out of the tranny with a screwdriver. You need to calculate how far off your speedo is before you pull the gear. This particular gear has 22 teeth, so buying the 20 tooth gear makes the speedo more accurate, although I think it is still around 2 mph short at 70 MPH.
Anyway, the point is, if you have an inaccurate speedo, its a very easy fix and inexpensive too. However, ensure the reason that your speedo is off because a different plastic gear is used for your specific combination of differential gears, tire diameter and transmision. Check the manufacturer info on things like recommended tire size, rear end ratio, drive gear in the transmission pain in the butt if this is wrong , and driven gear specs. If you require a reduction gear, that info is on there too.
Especially if you have numerically high gear ratios like 3. All these things matched together equal fairly accurate speedo readings. The C-clamp method of compressing the clutch packs took a couple of extra hands be sure to compress the C-clamps evenly and there were a ton of small parts to keep track of.

Today is Wednesday, Jan. Until then, most co-op customers are still being served by the old powerline that comes across the Loup, which like the new one is operated by the Okanogan County Public Utility District PUD. The long-term plan is to break the existing connection and bring the Winthrop line directly to a breaker at the Twisp substation, said Gottula.
Line Inspection – All Eaton Top 2 transmission systems installed at OEM plants must pass the requirements outlined in the “Line Inspection Form” prior to shipment. 6.
Versions of the C4 have also been produced for big-blocks. It is one of the easiest automatic transmissions to rebuild and modify because it is so simple and there are a lot of seasoned racers and builders who know a lot about this transmission and how to get it to perform. There are different approaches as to how to build a C4 and what to put in it. Seems everyone has a different opinion about how to build one for street and competition. For a comprehensive guide on this entire subject you can visit this link: You can use the social sharing buttons to the left, or copy and paste the website link: Even with the best factory parts, the C4 is a hardy box that will serve you for years and thousands of miles with regular fluid and filter changes.
Street and weekend-racing C4s can easily handle to hp without breaking a sweat.

Current Balun Click here for the order form: Order Form Keep that RF off of the outside of the transmission line and delivered to the antenna where it belongs! Less losses means less heat on the ferrite material, less chance for balun failure and more power delivered to the antenna. The power handling capability of this balun is phenomenal.
A new transmission can cost over $2, to replace. • Automatic transmission fluid cools by traveling out of the transmission via the oil cooler line to a reservoir in the radiator.
BC Maybe a drop of Locktite would be good? If you try to make a direct hookup between two fill devices, or between the COMSEC equipment and a fill device, you can bend or break pins in the connectors. Then you won’t be able to encrypt or decrypt you message. Don’t spit to lubricate the O-rings. Using the LC-2 A. The pack frame can be adjusted to put most of the weight on your hips.

That said, in the next iteration of the C10 build, it should come as no surprise that I plan to put a little more power under the hood with the components to back it. In the past, it was a matter of give and take when it came to getting off the line and cruising down the highway; usually one thing gave something up to suit the other. A TH is a good example of this.

February 12, , THEN cut the lines with a hacksaw and use rubber hose and clamps. I’d be lying if I said I’d never used rubber hose for the trans cooler before in a pinch. The “crazy” thing I found goes far beyond that I swear it’s a new one on me The AC condenser now serves as the tranny cooler! I couldn’t beleive what I was seeing at first They took the tranny lines, roughly bent them all around, cut the fttings off the AC condenser and tranny lines and then hooked them up with fuel hose and clamps.
Wierder still if that’s possible is that on the radiator, the connections for the cooler are plugged with the correct type of “flare plugs”. It’s like they put in a new radiator or something but then wnet to “extra” effort to goof up the cooler lines and AC condenser which appaarently wasn’t leaking because it holds tranny fluid! My plan is to somehow pressure test the “correct” cooler in the radiator and then replace the lines to get it back to “normal”.
No telling what the difference in pressure drop is between the AC condenser and the correct cooler. No telling what ill cooling effects it has.
Spotter’s Guide: 4L60E Transmission
All 4 forward gears and the converter clutch can be controlled independently to determine if an electronic problem is in the transmission or not. Have you ever heard of a Schaffer shifter? Probably not, but if you work on automatic transmissions professionally, you have.
Dec 29, · I need to know which cooler line is the outlet and which is the inlet on a TH automatic transmission. I have searched everywhere and cant seem to find an answer. Right now the upper line runs to the radiator cooler then through an aftermarket cooler then back to the lower line.
Comments 9 Typical costs: Some local gas companies will install a new gas line for free if you’re adding a gas heater or a gas water heater plus another gas appliance such as a dryer or stove. If this service isn’t free, your gas company may install the line at a set rate, then add the charges to your gas bill and let you make monthly payments.
In some areas gas companies charge less than certified plumbers for installing a gas line; in other regions the gas company may charge as much as twice the going rate; and not all gas companies have technicians available to install an additional gas line. Because of the danger of leaks or an explosion plus the liability involved, most experts recommend hiring a certified plumber or contractor to install a new gas line.
Gas pipe must be correctly sized according to how many appliances are on the line, and how much gas each appliance needs to function properly. Although it may appear logical to simply extend an existing gas line a few feet to where you want to add a gas dryer or a gas barbecue, often it’s necessary to install a T-valve back at the gas manifold and run a new line all the way to the new appliance, or to replace the existing line with larger pipe.
So installing a gas appliance a short distance from an existing gas line might require or more linear feet of pipe, or however much is needed to reach back to the gas manifold.
